Along with my new Plat. card in the mail today were 4 "Thank You" certificates to give to employees who provide excellent service. Very similar to a program DL has offered for many years to Plats.

They are paper cards that you can give out. Picture the Delta Drink coupons but these are Platinum Thank You's. The employee gets some spg points I think...

They did come in the mail with my SPG Plat. card packet. But they are four seperate certificates (business card size) to be given to employees.

So basically I guess you give these in addition to a tip for exceptional service. I do hope that there is some sort of record kept so that receiving such a card would go into an employee's file, if you will. I think that the value of having your boss see that guests find your work to be exceptional would far outweigh 500 SPG Points, as getting many of them could lead to a promotion or some sort of recognition.

Could SPG Champion perhaps opine on whether receipt of such a card would be noted in an employee's file?

No, that is what letters/emails to the employee's supervisor is for. ;)

Interesting. I have never written one of these as I'm new to SPG (just made plat this February) and I do not really want to be a nuisance, or come across as a DYKWIA type (I'm just a 25 year old leisure traveler after all). Is this type of thing generally encouraged/normal behavior for plats who come across an employee who goes above and beyond? If so I think I might just write my first letter of commendation! I certainly want the employee to receive the recognition he/she deserves but don't want to come across as thinking my opinion is all that important in the grand scheme of things...

Yes, of course it is. Just like we would want to hear from you if you were dissatisfied, it helps to hear from you when you are.

William: I really like this idea. Will we be able to ask for more of these certificates once we run out of our initial allotment?

I can think of a few properties where I'd use them all (Sheraton Suites Calgary, for e.g.) but I'll be more cautious if "refills" aren't on the menu.

If you should run short, you might ask Platinum Concierge if they can send you any extras they may have access to, but at some point in the year, I would expect them to run out completely.

    William,
I just received my new Platinum packet, with four new cards. Can I still use the ones from last year (and maybe even one from the year before) if I need to, or will the employee not get the perks if I do?

Last year's packet had said something like this:

"The speedy front-desk associate. The expert bartender. The efficient customer-care agent. Our entire staff has
one aim: to make your stay exceptional. Please feel free to recognize any SPG staff member who delivers excellent
service. Simply present him or her with one of your (Gold) or (Platinum) Thank You cards, to be used by February 28, 2013."

The ones from the year before have expired so you can toss any of those, but I'm fairly certain that the ones for 2013 will expire on February 28, 2014.
