Got the weekend starpoints email - clicked to see if any interesting hotels. Lo and behold, every hotel in Thailand is listed in USD (at least using the dollar sign). Now I know a mediocre hotel will not 5k dollars a night but a lot of people who aren't familiar with Thailand might not.

Is it REALLY that hard to have someone post correctly - either in local currency or CORRECTLY converted to USD? rant off

My apologies. If you would post the link to the landing page the email directs you to, I can forward on to the proper department for review.

I just tried a random search for Thailand on SPG website, and the default prices were clearly marked in THB. When I tried switching the currency to USD, the conversion appeared reasonable as well. Hmmm

On my laptop it is correct. This morning I read my email on android tablet (from the built in browser) and the link led to

    www.starwoodpromos.com/starpicks/m/list.php?country=TH&state=null&city=0&lkanguage=en

This was from outlook email in the browser not the spg app and listed the rate for The Westin as USD 3500 (marked down from usd 5800)!, the same for other bangkok hotels

Just tried the same link on my laptop and it give USD rates (incorrect ones) so there appears to be something about the mobile link

yes, the whole idea of paying thousands for these hotels was a hoot, BUT since many people use tablets a mistake like this certainly could lose some bookings!

sort of shooting yourself in the foot (IMHO) to advertise a special then mess up the rates so badly :(

It occurs only on the mobile link (I believe the iPhone app at least also has the same issue). It prices correctly in local currency, but fails to show any type of currency other than USD. So you end up with the Sheraton Saigon in Vietnam appearing to cost US$3.3 million per night , though it is a discount from the regular US$4.3 million per night!

Well a few million for a hotel in Saigon certainly sounds worse than a few thousand for Bangkok:p:D
Wonder if they lost any bookings from newbies who didn't know the obvious glitch.
