Starwood just came out with its promo of 3 stays = 1 free resort night with an unlimited free nights that can be earned. The stays must be between May 1, 2011 and July 31, 2011. Here is the MP thread: http://milepoint.com/forums/threads/spg-getaway-free.8842/

I wonder whether Hyatt might respond by bringing back the FFN promo? This is a good promo on Starwood's part, but a FFN with the traditional 2 stays = 1 free night at any Hyatt with unlimited nights would definetely trump SPG's Getaway free promo. Come on Hyatt, the return of FFN would be awesome.:D

I do think FFN will return, the question is when. That Starwood still sees the need to run free night offers is a good sign. We know what Hyatt's current promo is, they won't pull it and start FFNs during the promo period.

Summer is usually a heavy travel period, hard to think they'd run FFNs July/August/September, right? Though I suppose it's possible. I'd sooner expect to see it Nov/Dec when bookings fall off as business travel falls off.

I don't think free nights are gone. But two things have been going on. First, travel and occupancy and rates have picked up. Less reason to be so generous (hence hte disappearance of the property-specific G-bonuses as well :( ) and second, they introduced the Hyatt Visa and that because 'the way to earn free nights' -- big push fro the Visa, don't want to undermine its unique value proposition.

But SPGs very good promo is encourage for those who hope for Hyatt's usual FFN offering!

IIRC, Hyatt ran some version of FFN with a bonus points offer at the same time( not the GX bonus)?

I do recall how Hilton responded to Hyatt's BWB promo by offering the 4 stays = 1 free night last spring and even allowing an unlimited number of nights to be earned. I hope there is a FFN in the fall as is tradition. These are the dates and parameters of past FFN offers.

3 for 1 would be kind of steep. Would reduce the value of MR, but obviously would still be beneficial for planned stays. Although, would be hard to get enough stays in under any situation to accumulate a meaningful number of nights.

The best would be 2 Hyatt stays = 1 free night as has been with the traditional FFN; however, I think gleff is correct that the next time we may see FFN is some time in the fall.
