Just got an email from SPG. If you're looking to book a stay in Europe, you might want to check out the rates available through the Beat the Timer promo at the following link:

    http://www.beatthetimer.com/?EM=DM_TN16358_W1_A1_MX_BEATTIMER_MX_EN

It is a very limited time offer and the stays are prepaid, nonrefundable. However, in some cases, the rates can be fairly good. Just do your homework and double check that the rate you are getting is actually a deal.

Beatthetimer.com has been running for a couple of years, so has properties coming and going from the list pretty regularly. Many of the properties who feature on there, will have active rates even when not featured. Just take the SET code that they use for Beatthetimer rates, and try them on other hotels in the region. Sometimes it won't yield anything, but sometimes hotels will have rates loaded. Good thing to try for peak dates in particular. (Hogmany in Edinburgh was available at the BTT rate, which was about a third of the price on SPG.com)

Quite often Starwood send out selective emails based upon a stay at a previous hotel, so it is likely that the OP's email came via that source, rather than an SPG-wide mailer.
