Is spell check available?
download third party spell checkers/plug-in for your browser. For Internet Exploder, iespell is very good, Firefox has a built in spell checker.
Of course, it still won't catch the your/you're and their/they're/there...but that's the nature of the beast in chat rooms
You need a grammar checker for those ones!
And we need a special one to flag isle/aisle!
I guess I never realized Chrome had a built in spell checker until now.
I have found the Firefox built in checker very good personally. Now if it did not have so many memory leaks (FF not the spell checker )
Add-ons aside, it would be a nice feature to include for those who do not have it built in.
Firefox and Chrome have it built in, and I think Safari does, too. And there is a free add-in for Internet Explorer:
I'd pay for a checker that would correct the misuse of loose/lose.
That might take a human checker! (Resisting temptation to reply with another bad spelling pun ...)
I would settle for a little pop-up box whenever one of those was typed. "Did you mean 'lose'? Or 'loose'. If you don't know the difference, look up both definitions here (hyperlink).
So someone typing "The nut was a bit loose causing the driver to pit and lose the race. The loser was relieved the nut wasn't any looser, which may have caused a serious accident." would get 2 (or 4) popups? Boo.
Safari has that built in too but sometimes it causes problems
intermittent problem when doing right click on typo
So what's the answer to helping out those who aren't smarter than a 5th grader?
thank you - I use Firefox and never knew about the spell checker --- duh! why the red lines? dope! got it now
Man.. I use teh Google tool bar which has spell check. But each time I use it, all text disappears out of the "reply" block! Can someone tell me if I spelled disappear correctly? .
I like the Chrome browser for the spellcheck, but I wish it would give me suggestions for misspelled words.
On FT (using IE primarily but also Netscape on PCs), I tried to download the suggested spellchecker but I could never get it to work to me. It might have been an issue with the security settings determined by my network admin.
Same problem. Fix it, please!
