Although the Boeing 737 MAX series has been on sale for some time, giant US low fare carrier Southwest has become the first airline to place on order for the MAX 7, the smallest of the family.
The new engine technology MAX 7 corresponds in capacity, but with improved range and fuel economy, to the current NG series 737-700.

Southwest is already designated the launch customer for the 737 MAX program but became the first airline to order the 737 MAX 7, when it converted 30 existing orders for Next-Generation 737s to the forthcoming higher technology version and will take deliveries of these jets from 2019, some two years after the MAX 8 enters service with other but later buyers of the new Boeing family.
