Flying in and out the Ozarks should become easier and a little cheaper next year. Southwest Airlines signed a multi-year commitment with Branson Airport on Tuesday.

Southwest says it will begin operating flights to and from Branson in the first half of 2013. That is great news for air travelers who are loyal to the Southwest brand."I think Southwest Airlines is a very good ariline," said Arlan Straub of Beaumont, Texas.

Branson Airport executives are relying on the brand power of Southwest to help them attract more business.

"We'll see more visitors coming, and we'll also have more options for people to fly out, which will help economic development in the region," said Jeff Bourk, executive director of Branson Airport.

Right now, Bourk said, about 35 percent the people who fly in and out of Branson are considered to be locals. The hope is, with the addition of Southwest, more people from the Ozarks will choose to fly Branson.

"There's no reason to drive four hours to get low fares anymore. You can get those right here right out of our airport," Bourk said.

Jon and Whitney Wrast live in the Springfield area. They said they fly out of Branson to save money.

"It's going to make Branson a lot more appealing to people from Springfield, just because there's going be a lot more flights and destinations to go to," said Jon Wrast.

Another death nail for the SGF airport. I still can't figure out why they didn't get together and build one bigger airport between Springfield and Branson. Would have made more since.
