Rocketmiles, a Chicago-based travel booking site, said today it has launched a new partnership with Southwest Airlines.

Southwest (NYSE: LUV) is the latest of a large number of carriers to link up with Rocketmiles, which allows frequent travelers to book hotels at discounted rates and, in most instances, earn thousands of miles in their designated airline loyalty program for each booking.

Launched only a year ago by Jay Hoffmann, Bjorn Larsen and Kris Helenek, Rocketmiles has in short order managed to ink partnerships with most of the major domestic carriers, and several foreign airlines, including Qatar Airways, Etihad, Air France, KLM and Turkish Airlines.

Of the largest domestic carriers, only Delta Air Lines does not work with Rocketmiles. But a spokesman for Rocketmiles said the company is working on bringing Delta into the fold.

Can anyone provide information as to whether services like Rocketmiles and Pointshound are actually worth using? That is, how much does a customer actually pay for the miles received using these services, versus choosing to use other discount websites (e.g., Expedia), or else simply using the airline website directly to book?
