UA is dropping the HKG-SGN route. http://cmiafa.org/news/cmi-sgn-flying/

Loss of this route is expected to be countered with an addition in the Micronesia route network to ensure that comparable flight hours are available to crews. I'm betting China.

Trying to look at the history of the route. Looks like UA(CO) is the first US airline (post war) to service SGN and maybe the only? Has any other US carrier offer service to the city?

Bummer, I thought with the TPP, the traffic on this route may increase in volume...

New service will be an additional GUM-PVG frequency.

ETA: That news frequency is definitely being added. Unclear if that's necessarily the replacement or not.

Had a killer itinerary all on UA metal.. LAX-SFO-HKG-SGN-HKG-EWR and now the only offer from UA is via NRT and Air Japan on ANA. Not happy, tried to route through SIN vis SQ and nope. Seems that it's a "Withdrawal Agreement" and all routing now goes to ANA..

No surprise that UA is pushing pax to NH to make up for the missing flight. The two have a JV/ATI in the market and that's where things will move going forward across the board.
