I'm starting this thread to avoid clogging up the official master thread (any further). I'll update first few posts as we have more info about everyone's plans in each city, etc.

    What we know so far:
    • Cities SMD4 will visit/overnight (LAX, ZRH, SFO, IAH, ORD).
    • Official hotels named: PH Zurich, Hyatt Regency SFO, Hyatt Regency Houston.
    • (According to KOA) Tommy mentioned that there will be special rates at all the official Hyatt properties, including PH Zurich.
    • (According to KOA) Tommy mentioned that hotel booking will occur after SMD booking.
    • Rooms will need to fit wide-brimmed cowboy hats.
    What we don't know yet:
    • Full set of SMD4 attendees (some might clear off waitlist!)
    • Hyatt's sponsor challenge.
    • Exact properties for official lodging in Chicago.

    Roommate requests!

This is not officially sanctioned by SMD4 in any way. I am not a SMD4 organizer, so please don't complain to the real organizers if something goes wrong with lodging/roommates.

    You can use this thread/form:
    - Whether you are looking for roommates in/near LAX, ZRH, SFO, IAH, and/or ORD.
    - Whether you have an existing reservation or not.
    - Whether you have status with Hyatt, other chains, or not.
    - Whether you prefer big spoon or little spoon.

Please use this quick 4-question form to submit your roommate request. I'll copy/paste the latest data from this into this post so that folks don't have to dig too far.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dFhmVGRwWEcwbGRpUlZvcXlOYlE5dlE6MQ#gid=0

Please make sure to include whether your request is contingent on the announcement of the Hyatt challenge.

Here are the requests as of August 7!

If you have any adjustments or updates to your "posting" below, or if you are no longer in the market, please let me know.

Generally a mellow guy. I've roomed with lots of people (both men and women) at non-work conferences. I don't snore and I'm tidy without being OCD. ... with room criteria... Currently booked a two-bed award room at Hyatt Regency SFO, a two-bed award room at Hyatt Regency Houston, and a two-bed revenue room at Hyatt Regency Schaumburg (Thursday and Friday nights, plus separate Saturday night reservation, as I'm signed up for the Giddy Up Day also). Am Hyatt Diamond member looking forward to hearing what Hyatt's special offer will be and will re-book my SFO and Houston nights as a revenue night if needed to qualify. If prospective roommate is also interested in the Hyatt special offer when announced, I'm open to internal bidding to see who pays more to be the person whose Gold Passport account is credited. And if the offer is so awesome that we decide to part ways and book our own rooms, no hard feelings! ... and in search of someone... Mild preference for female roommate. Interested in having somebody with whom to naturally wander around the DO events. References upon request. :)

As a first timer, what is the general protocol? Do mot people share rooms or book their own? I get the sense that very little time is spent in the room.

I only attended the OWMD, it seemed most people got their own room. I shared and plan on sharing again.

I would offer but worry for my roommate's sanity as I tend to snore (and sound like I am choking to death when I don't snore!) :)

Looking for a someone to split with in Zurich and LA, I think LAX Hilton is ideal for the Sat night. Although I think HR Century has airport shuttle which I would do too. Would like to hear others thoughts on Zurich hotels, I have diamond in both and enough for rewards. I will probably be in Chicago through Sunday also if anyone is interested with a car.

Tommy replied to my email on Sat that Hyatt will have special rates for all the hotels including Zurich. The hotel booking will begin after the charter booking. This is not an official notice, just fyi

There have been benefits in the past like free Hyatt Diamond for those who attend, but IIRC, it goes only to the person who booked the rooms. So if you are someone's roommate and this is offered, you may lose out.

most get their own rooms, though depending on the rates, some do share (I shared with OWMD, and am waiting to see the rates for this one before I decide on sharing).

At the launch Tommy mentioned that you will have to be in all 3 Hyatts (during the official portion of SMD4) to qualify for the Hyatt promotion.

The ZRH one is not required, IIRC.

How about the person that books the room pay a little more for the status and the person sharing pays a little less. I am sure that a lot of do'ers already qualified for status/don't care about status. I guest it's all depend on the promotion that Hyatt gonna put out.

I am applying for the chase Hyatt card - sign up bonus is two one day stays anywhere in the chain. Hopefully I can use these at the PH Zurich.
Gotta save some money for any auctions during the do.

Open for sharing if I can get a room.

Update: 7/23 by the time the sign up bonuses were posted, it was not available to book. Looking for other hotels to book.

Did the same thing, though I'm hoping to save those free nights for the PH Tokyo for the UA123 DO in March . So I'm also open to sharing in ZRH.
