SkyWest Airlines announced Tuesday that it has contracted with United Airlines to add 40 regional jets that will boost the number of passengers it can carry and allow it to attract other potential service partners.

The 40 Embraer E175 jets have 76 seats, 10 more than the largest regional passenger jet in United’s system currently, said SkyWest President and Chief Operating Officer Chip Childs.

“We’ve had a strong relationship with United for well over 14, 15 years now. … They’ve watched our on-time delivery, our reliability and (the way we’re) just taking care of the customer,” Childs said. “(That’s something) they’ve been pleased with.”

The planes will go into service next April, he said.
