A few quick questions. I am getting ready to fly SFO-LAX and need to check a bag. My friend is flying in from CVG and his flight does not arrive until 2 hours later.

Can I access the skyclub in LAX after I land using the Amex Platinum card?

What will happen to my checked bag? Will it be safe a the baggage services desk a few hours later when I want to pick it up once my friend arrives? I realize this may lead to theft... but I am just checking a few liquids that I can't carry on in a small bag... so if it gotten stolen it wouldn't be the end of the world.

I've used my AX PLT to access the Sky Club after a flight many times. As to what happens to your checked bag, hopefully baggage service will collect it and have it either sitting near the baggage service office, or locked up.

I am a bit nervous to leave my baggage down there... But not to worried. I am running the Los Angeles Marathon and need to check a bag with some healthy food and drinks... and energy gels. If it got stolen it wouldn't be the end of the world. All my clothes and most importantly shoes will be carryed on.

I should've added.....even though you probably already know this.... make sure you have your inbound (SFO-LAX) boarding pass with you when you check into the SC at LAX.

  5. I would not leave my luggage unclaimed in LAX unless it's absolutely necessary. I wouldn't say the stuff there is bad, they are nice almost all the time, but just relaxed too much.
You have to be prepared to spend some time with them to locate your bag after all.

Leaving your bag at LAX is gutsy. Wish you luck. I'd look for a Pre-security (in or out of LAX meeting area.

No, and in fact there isn't much at all pre-security in DL's terminal, although there's a bit more to do landside in TBIT, which is nice and empty at certain hours.

Another idea is to visit the restaurant and bar in the iconic center view thingie at LAX.

I forget, but I think I saw it mentioned here on MP, probably in a thread about how to spend X hours in LAX and whether there is enough time to leave the airport, especially for a meal.

Yes, this is it. It's located over the parking garage/airport entrance, roughly between terminals 1 and 8, probably about a ten minute walk from terminal 5 (which DL uses).

I second the recommendation to pick up your bag right away and wait for you friend at Encounter. Or, as someone mentioned, TBIT has a decent selection of food pre-security on the mezzanine level (prolly cheaper than Encounter depending on your budget).

And most of all - good luck on the marathon!
