From The Wall Street Journal [For the rest of the article click on the link]

It will be interesting to see how this works out.

I wonder why they're keeping this separate from their existing LCC for shorter routes. If they were the same company, this would make both LCC parts look more attractive, but perhaps with more risk of cannibalization of their primary business. I wonder how many long haul routes can support both services daily. Alternatively, maybe the new unit will almost resemble charter service with certain routes operated on certain days. An obvious question is the aircraft types and source of planes. Could some SQ 747s go here?

Some commentary here in Singapore has speculated that some of the 777-200s would move here. Their SilkAir subsidiary isn't really an LCC, in cost or service terms. And they do already own a stake in Tiger Airways which is a proper LCC, so it's all a little unclear.

For me, if I can earn miles on SQ KrisFlyer, then I'll be happy…

I second that! Never thought of this possibility when I first read the news.

Well it's likely only a possibility, rather than a probability at present. SQ's not the most generous anyway. But Jetstar flights can be credited to QF earning status too. If that happened, I'd be surprise… but also best pleased!

Well, lets just hope it'll be the best for both worlds.. :p

But knowing SQ, the best of both worlds is not their interest at all..

As long as it's their world, they'll be happy!

I know with some European LCCs allied to proper airlines, the earnings are by spend (e.g. BMI Baby). That could be another way to avoid giving too much away. I don't at all expect to earn 1x distance on a budget carrier. That would be rather generous!
