The portuguese government seems more and more serious about offloading TAP.
During the PM visit to Qatar in Jan the discussion came to the table for QR take a stake in TP which ended up in the news, but with no further consequences.
Given the star alliance feed TP is getting for pax to Brazil and Africa it would probably make more sense for TP to be kept in the ownership Star Alliance.
The only buyer in Europe within Star Alliance seems to be LH (still digesting OS and BD).
So the question is if it stills makes sense for LH to add TP to their group?

    How I see it:

    Strenghts:
Brazil routes (only direct service from Europe to POA;BSB;CNF;NAT and a couple of others)
Africa routes (oil heavy LAD daily (at least); MPM; TMS; OXB;etc)
    Star partner
Willingness of the government to sell might spell a good deal

    Weaknesses:
A civil servant mentality by a portion of the cabin crew
Huge debt if it's not written off by the government
TP group persistently in the red

    What's your view?

I hope not. Further consolidation of the airline legacy carriers in Europe will not be good for customers.

I also don't see how the government can write off the debt.

Airline consonsolidation will continue as this ultimately means that airlines will fail and disappear from the market.
I think people need to understand that not each country needs their own flag carrier.
Will TAP be able to survive ? Who know's ? But time will tell.

My bet would be that they will ultimately disappear.

Wouldn't BA/Iberia put up quite the fight for TP if it were put up for sale?
