Mrs. Flyer and I are booked one way on the same PNR with a connection in ORD, with onward travel to YUL. The first leg to ORD is rather long, so I upgraded us with certs.

As things will happen, I picked up a gig elsewhere and will not be flying to YUL, instead getting on another airline to another destination. Mrs. Flyer will continue on as planned.

s the subject of this thread implies, in order not to bring any unwanted attention to MS Flyer on the ORD-YUL leg, should I split the PNR? How do I do that? Will that impact the upgrade on the first leg?

Assuming the upgrade is already confirmed splitting doesn't matter.

Split or don't; I've only once been asked about a missing travel companion and it was not in the USA. If asked she can tell the truth or make up a story. Shouldn't really matter.

No downside to splitting. Potential downside to not if you encounter an overzealous agent.
