    I am looking at a Hotel in China and I was offered the following 3 choices. I know my wife would do the points... What would you do? (btw. 643CNY is about 100$)

    Cash & Points.

    The cash rate is nonrefundable and not necessarily a great deal IMO. And a penny/point isn't bad for Hilton but the C&P rate is a better value IMO, assuming you're willing to pay the $35ish in cash.

    This one is easy to figure. During today's Daily Getaways promotion, you could have purchased 100,000 Hilton Honors points for $500. So assuming you wanted a five-night stay, you could have used that $500 to purchase 100,000 Hilton points and used half of these for the award, and you'd still have 50,000 points left.

    I didn't happen to purchase any Hilton points during this year's promotion, but I have in years past. Assuming you value your points similarly, the cash cost is about twice that of the points (or cash & points) cost in this particular case.

    Thank you, gentlemen. I got 2 rooms for 2 nights. One room I used the points and the other room I used C&P.

    For me, the math is easy.
    I consider HHonors points now (after the devauation a while back) to be worth about one-third of a cent apiece

    So:
    Cash = $100
    Cash plus points = ~$13.33 (for the 4000 HH points) + ~$33 (for the 213 CNY) = ~$46.33
    Points = $33.33 (for the 10,000 HH points)

    Therefore using the points would be the best for me. (Actually, in my experience getting a redemption at a rate of a penny a point for HH points is remarkable!)

    I changed my booking to "points" for both rooms.

    Me too, so one can buy 10000 HH points for 50$. In the above scenario savings of almost 50%.
