    What is this?
My 2014 Platinum card says "Valid through 02/15"
My 2015 Platinum card says "Valid through 01/16"

It seems like every single month they come up with another enhancement to the program.

I love the DL service and their front line personnel, but the nickel and diming from on top is really wearing me down.

(btw, I'm interested in constructive discussion, but I can't read multi-paragraph cut-and-paste boilerplate rants with lots of big gold stars)

Yeah, this was announced a while back.

Delta has long been on the knife edge of nice front line personnel and product but descending ff program and tricky maneuvers. I definitely made an effort to spend on routes where dl or skyteam were advantageous over the past few years, to limit exposure to SM changes. It's the relentless little changes that made me a lot more open to switching, though. Sdc neutering, no skyclub guests, no palatable skyclub booze, etc.

I knew this was actually announced quite some time back but offhand cannot recall when. Will post if it comes back to me or when I find it.

What was the reason/justification for the change?

yeah, I got my "streamlined production" medallion credentials yesterday. Streamlined means cheaper packaging, although the fancy package was never of any importance. More significant is, if your status drops it drops a month earlier.

I suspect that if/when Delta have electronic information from partner airlines received (or even "guesstimated") by the end of the year, that status would drop on 12/31 of each year. And watch out, United Airlines is reading this, and will soon follow suit! :(

UA already cut its program year shorter to January; this is arguably DL following UA.

B6 terminates the program year on 31 December for Mosaic members.

I'm convinced they don't really want prompt information from their partners. It's gotten to the point that, every time I fly a partner, I have to contact Delta (often more than once) to get miles credited. I'm assuming most people don't follow up, and there are many millions of MQM's and miles not credited thanks to that lack of "prompt information".

Thanks! The US/AA ("new AA") program year ends annually at the end of February.

Jeff R. gave a reason for it - it might have been at a TES event during the Freddies two years ago - i think it was to align with something else.

    Seth, do you remember?

Does Delta wants more medallion or less medallion members? :)
In theory though, medallion status is usually more than 12 months as the status kicks in at the time earned.
The above of course means "nothing" for folks who retained status.
It is significant though for those who achieved a new status (or dropped in status).

I don't think its significant for those who go up in status- new status will kick in when they earn it. However, for those who drop in status, they lose a month of status, and that could be quite significant.

Yes, in fact, it could be more than significant. It could be * mejor en su clase *

Although B6 operate a shorter leash and this matches UA, the way in which the change was snuck in was classic drive-by SM management MO. Invest your money/emotions in SM at your peril....
