At various Sheraton properties there are tastings of wine rated 90+. You can check out to see if the Sheraton you are staying participates and further details at http://sheraton.com/socialhour

This is similar to what Westins do on weekdays.

I have recently stayed in a few of the listed hotels none of which have had anything remotely comparable to this. In fact Sheraton Needham and Sheraton Suites Columbus, to name two, had unattended semi-rancid fried cheese and similar inedibles and no drinks of any kind other than soft drinks and water.

I hope these really exist somewhere because I'd enjoy such an experience.

In Moscow, several places in China and a couple in continental Europe there have been outstanding facilities, although never the 90+ wines. In Moscow Tsverskaya they have table service and a fair variety of spirits served as much as you wish as well as a decent buffet dinner-like spread.

There may be some confusion here, as it looks like you are describing the club lounge facilities at the different properties. The "Sheraton Social Hour", when I've seen it (once), and from the PR materials I've seen, would typically be in the lobby bar or similar location and the standard would be to have apparently 3-4 events a week. Given the no drinks comment, I suspect you were in the wrong place and looking for something a fair bit different from what the program is supposed to be.

Actually I did understand and Sheraton Social Hour was billed at these properties but seemed not to actually happen. I suspect the scheduling is an issue not very well communicated, perhaps.

How do we find out if the Sheraton LAX is doing the social hour during the FTU do?

I guess I was confused by the unattended bar with nothing but soft drinks and water comment. I can't quite visualize a lobby bar without any booze on offer.

Scheduling seems a bit odd/inconsistent, and the only time I've run across the Sheraton Social Hour was on a trip out to Sonoma, when I'd already been tasting wine all day and was pretty much out of palate at that point.

I'd say contact them and ask. If they aren't, it's certainly possible that enough interested parties could change that, as long as they're doing the program in general.

A good idea stolen/copied from Kimpton Hotels.

Sheraton Sonoma? Do you mean Petaluma?

Petaluma would be the location of the hotel, but not the focus of the trip. We traveled out to Sonoma county, and stayed in Petaluma (at the Sheraton Sonoma County). Petaluma was little more than a convenient base, so I wouldn't really call it a trip to Petaluma. I guess we didn't really hit up the town of Sonoma in any meaningful way, and spent more time in Sebastopol than anywhere else, so a more accurate description might be "trip to Sonoma County", but that gets a bit wordy.

I see in retrospect how it seemed, because all there was in these was the ordinary exec lounge, not the promised wine tasting event. Bad wording on my part. Sorry.

I think what most of us can agree on is that it would be nice to actually see these events happening!

They definitely had them in Hua Hin Thailand, and I saw a notice also for Sheraton Imperial KL
