I recently had a stay at the Sheraton Hanoi. I found it to be a decent and very adequate property. Very helpful and friendly staff.

Has anyone had any trouble getting SPG stays/points to credit? Most of my stays show up very quickly- but so far I am thinking I will have to try to claim this one as it is not crediting.

Quick update: A helpful Exec Club Floor Manager is following up with me as a result of this post. Points and Plat amenity credited so far, working on the stay credit.

Welcome to Milepoint, Phuong Ta! It's good to have hotel representatives here in the forums!

Jslo, if you have additional feedback about the hotel, I'm sure that others would be interested in a full hotel review.

Here is an abbreviated full hotel review-

Location: The hotel is about a 30 minute ride (25km) from the Hanoi Noi Bai Airport (main airport/International). The airport is on the north side/outskirts of Hanoi 30-45 minutes from the downtown area, and anywhere you would stay is about this far from the airport. The Sheraton is actually on the north side of town convenient to the airport, in an upscale area called Westlake. There are quite a few restaurants/etc in the area, walking distance from the hotel. The main downtown areas of Hanoi are a short and inexpensive taxi ride from the Sheraton. Very convenient. There always seemed to be a pretty decent taxi queue at the entrance, and although I speak little to no Vietnamese, the Sheraton doorman always made sure we were secure in a taxi with directions and a taxi card back to the hotel.

Check In: Very smooth, and there is an elite/Platinum checkin at reception on the 17th floor. When I checked in, I was escorted to the desk on the 17th floor which is right off the lounge. Status was quickly recognized, and a very helpful professional checkin no problem.

Amenity: The Lounge on 17 is very nice and actually I was pleasantly surprised. The wifi signal is adequate and consistent in the lounge, the food was good, and drinks plentiful with service oriented staff eager to assist. I thought the afternoon/cocktail hour had better food than the breakfast. While breakfast was ok, the selection in the buffet just off the lobby was more extensive. Free internet was of course granted as a Plat whether in room or elsewhere in the hotel. The Platinum amenity was credited no problem, 500 Pts. I was upgraded to the Exec Club Floor and I actually turned down a suite of some kind as I needed the two double beds for a short stay. I did have a minor glitch on stay/point credit but the Exec Floor Manager, Phoung Ta, was most helpful in quickly and efficiently correcting the situation. Overall I was very happy with Platinum treatment.

Rooms: Adequate. Clean, average to on the large size for Asia. Nothing crazy just a nice/decent/quiet hotel room. No wifi, only hard wired internet which is a bit of an inconvenience as more and more people travel with smart phones/iPad etc which have no ethernet port. Bathroom was pretty spacious with a separate shower and bath, very roomy bathroom. A/C at one point seemed to go out. One call to the desk and it was fixed within the 1/2 hour. A/C can be a key factor when it's 32c and humid!

Pool/Spa/Health Club: I thought all this was fine. The health club was decent size and well equipped. Depending on which room you are in, it is a bit far to get to the pool/spa/health area. You kind of have to switch wings of the hotel, and weave your way. Not prohibitive, but also not the most convenient either. The pool was relaxing and nice. Not crowded at all when I was there. There is one outdoor/rooftop tennis court. I took advantage of a massage in the spa, and it was great. The staff by the pool and in the spa were friendly and pleasant.

Overall, I would rate this hotel pretty highly. Next time in Hanoi I will be staying here again for the Plat treatment, staff, pool, and location. There are those who may feel it is not "downtown" but really it is so close and easy to get there. I believe the hotel also runs a shuttle back and forth to the main downtown area. I prefer taxi and actually enjoy the slightly more quiet setting in Westlake with downtown available any time I choose.

If you are staying at the Sheraton in Hanoi, do checkout the nearby Don's restaurant- excellent views, great service, really good cocktails and food. Don is originally from Montreal, and is a super nice guy with one of the better restaurants in Hanoi. It is on the other side of the lake from the Sheraton.

I had a two-night stay here last week (September 22-24, 2011). We booked and got a club room (I didn't have any status with Starwood at the time).

    The good
The staff were great, especially in the Lounge. All of them were friendly, welcoming, and very informative.
The hotel provided six complementary bottles of water per day, which is probably the best I have ever had (we drank all of them).
The room was large, clean, and well-equipped. We had a good view of the lake from the 15th floor.
The buffet breakfast downstairs and continental breakfast in the lounge were both very good (especially downstairs with Pho, miso soup, nasi goreng, excellent break and pastries, as well as the standard buffet.

    The bad
The location felt somewhat out of the way. It is about 10-15 minutes by taxi into the centre, and I would have preferred to be able to walk (not the hotel's fault, just my preference).
I was charged $3 to post a letter to the UK, which seemed excessive and was the only thing I didn't like about the service.

    Overall
It's a good hotel with great staff and an average location. It is very good at what it is (a large US-style conference hotel) but doesn't have much in the way of local character (sometimes it was hard to tell we were in Vietnam, although that may well be a plus for some travellers).

I'd recommend the hotel, but I think we might try something with a bit more character/better location next time.

Just had another stay, this time as a plat. Was not upgraded to a suite (breaking my recent awesome streak) but didn't really push this as I was on my own. The hotel seemed quite full. Room was fine. Breakfast not as good as the Sheraton Saigon, but decent.

This is a hotel I would not mind going back to. If I was travelling with my wife I'd probably want to stay in town though.
