The windy city. The second city. The Grey City, the City on the Make. The city where politics is a spectator sport. Others may have corrupt politics, but ours are theatrically corrupt, and we love it.

Quite a group of players and events have shaped this city, from Paul Lawrence Dunbar and the great fire, to architects like Sullivan, Wright, the prairie style and the glass box. Our architects, like our city, combine creativity, innovation and tradition for a uniquely Chicago mix.

Montgomery Wards and Sears Roebuck changed the shape of the world of commerce, and Michael Jordan changed the standing of basketball in the sports world. We've had more than our fair share of good guys and bad guys; from Alfonse Capone to Enrico Fermi, from Johnny Weissmuller to the Belushi Brothers. Politicians? We've had a few; Cermak, the Daleys, Harold Washington, and on to Obama and Rahm.

You want music, theater, dance? We're second to none. Education and research? The University of Chicago, Argonne Labs, and the Chicago High School for the Arts.

We're gritty, a bit rough around the edges, but we're never boring. Stop by any time, but remember: we have just two seasons. Winter and Road Construction.

The snowy lakefront. The boats will return to those parking spots in the spring, like swallows returning to Capistrano.

    Not the best weather

Our trip to Chicago in 2010 coincided with a busy time-Stanley Cup win, local derby in baseball & the Blues Festival. For any future visitors I would certainly recommend the services of the Chicago Greeters- we had a fantastic half-day tour.

Love that bridge. Near 19th & Canal. For ten years I had a shop just a block away from it.

looks rickety as heck but it is a bridge that Amtrak trains cross all the time.

This is also the location on the river where the largest wooden yacht in Chicago docks, you can see a photo of Geoffrey Baer standing on the boat here: http://www.wttw.com/main.taf?p=19,1
