United is launching SFO-SIN nonstop service on 1 June 2016 and dropping SIN-NRT as a connection option. SIN-HKG will remain. The dismantling of the NRT hub is essentially complete.

Service will be on a 787-9 with the near midnight departure from SFO arriving early morning +2 and a much more reasonable 8:45a departure from SIN versus the crazy early HKG or NRT connections.

EWR and ORD can still connect through HKG. If you're in IAD, IAH, or LAX, yea, connect in SFO now versus NRT. How is that all that different?
Why isn't a single 789 enough (not counting the HKG-SIN flight, which will still exist)? They're currently running a single 772 on NRT-SIN with 48 premium seats (8 GF and 40 BF) and 221 Y seats. A single 789 has...48 BF seats and 204 Y seats. It's unclear if they'll have a weight restriction that further reduces the number of Y seats solds, but that seems pretty close capacity wise to me.

And don't forget the large number of one-stop flights this adds to access Singapore which previously were two-stop. IAD is arguably the worst affected in total travel time but there are a plethora of TATL options from WAS and NYC with a single connection which are competitive in the travel time. But from the west coast or even the Mountain time zone this is a big win.

While it's only about 30 minutes longer than their current longest flight, think they'll do anything special in terms of service/amenities to differentiate this flight from other not-so-long longhauls?

Yup. This too long for me in Dreamliner Economy seats, and chances are probably slim to find award seats or affordable C seats... Cool route otherwise.

They do have GPU'able 1-way fares for $1200 from SFO, so that isn't too too bad.

I don't have any GPUs anymore since I am no longer a 1K. Hunting for C awards these days.

I looked at W fares for Sept. and R was available at a cost rt of over $2000.00, guess I won't be going to SIN anytime soon.

So a return trip to Asia in business class for $2000 is too much?? That seems like a pretty good price to confirm it right now.
