I am planning to be in NYC on Sunday evening and either will stay downtown or with my friend in Long Island City. As legalalien mentioned, Novotel has some good rates for single occupancy.

Anyone interested in doing something the morning after checking in (to the Sheraton for my party)? We were thinking of going to the BMW Musuem to arrive around 10.30 am and be back around 2.00 pm to the hotel. (assuming activities start at 3.00). Anyone else interested?

A few of us were going to explore the city. How do you plan on going to the BMW museum? It's a bit of a drive from MUC, AFAIK.

By the way, activities start at 2 pm - check out post No. 1224 in the official thread.

I might be if I'm not too tired from the party flight and my first A380. I've been there before, but it would be fun to go back. Are you planning to use public transportation and have you checked the details? The place is on the outskirts of the city, although I think I used a combination of public transportation and footpower when I went before from downtown Munich.

Only 3 hours away, but wouldn't you rather go to the one in Alabama? :)

In other news, we now seem have FOUR threads to discuss SMDIII.

And is getting a bit confusing, especially with some of the info and posts overlap and for people like myself who can only post once a day.

Yes, I thought I saw 2 pm, then I checked and saw 3 pm, ok, it's 2 pm. That makes it much tighter then. I'm traveling with a party of 3 others (4 total). One member (techne) thought it might be nice to visit somewhere (instead of "resting") and suggested that. I looked it up and they open at 10.00 am, the Welt is "free" and the museum is 6 EUR.

    Car (Cab?):

Google Maps shows the car route to be 40 km and 32 minutes each way. Assuming we arrive early enough to leave the Sheraton at 10 am, and share a cab we could be there at 10.45 am, look for about 1 hr 15 min, get a quick lunch, then leave at around 12.30 pm, to be back at 1.15 pm with buffer (and time to rest otherwise).

    Public transit options:
    http://www.mvv-muenchen.de/en
shows a walk/2 S-Bahn/1 U-Bahn journey that will be 10.08 - 11.05 am, or about 55 minutes, which is probably fine.

All this assumes the flight arrives on time, immigration, check-in, etc. leaves us comfortably able to depart Sheraton at 10.00. If it's much later than the trip is not worth the hassle.

I might join in on this, since I haven't managed to get the BMW Museum since it reopened.

The train ride should only be 1 S-Bahn and 1 U-Bahn to "Olympiazentrum", with just a short walk at the end. The BMW site oddly recommends the longer route, which takes over an hour, but with S1+U3 it should be 49mins out, 41mins back (just the ride-time).

There's no immigration in MUC (we'll have done that in FRA), so the only thing holding us up at the airport would be flight delays (and maybe the shuttle for those Sheraton-bound). And I guess luggage if someone checks theirs. I would think a departure earlier than 10 should be possible.

FYI, check out this handy MUC Stopover Guide. There is a 30% voucher for the BMW museum, and a bunch of other discounts, e.g., 50% off LH Airport Bus.

If someone in C on LH401 wants to move to 10A or 10D, those bulkhead seats have opened up in the last day or 2. (According to expertflyer at least)

Are these "shell" seats or is a bulkhead beneficial in that no one can recline into you?

all C seats on the 380/340/744 etc are shell seats. no one can recline into your space.
