OK, here is a late'ish' dinner on a weekday night, plenty of time for folks in the burbs to get downtown. I will be driving in from the ORD area so if anyone needs a ride, just PM me.

C'mon out to D'Candela a Peruvian restaurant that is BYOB (Bring your own booze). One of the attendees is going to bring the makings for Chilcanos.

A fellow frequent traveler & I dined here awhile back and we enjoyed everything they had. For those squeamish eaters, there isn't any cuy on the menu :D

Some examples of very tasty dishes include:
Peruvian-style rotisserie chicken roasted slowly over real charcoal

Ceviche Mixto - Seafood and fresh tilapia marinated with lime juice, cilantro and rocoto pepper. Served with red onions, sweet potato, potato and Peruvian white corn. Slightly spicy.

Ocopa - Boiled and sliced potatoes topped with creamy sauce made with huacatay herb, nuts, milk and cheese. Served with boiled egg.

Chicha Morada - Traditional homemade Peruvian drink made of purple corn.

    Time: 7:30pm

Sweet Willie, you are the man! I sure wish that I could join your group here!

FWIW, here's our favorite Peruvian restaurant in the D.C. area (Rockville, Maryland):

It's inexpensive and serves great authentic Peruvian/Latin dishes. And can understandably get very crowded!

so 8 folks showed up, one person brought the mixings for a pisco based drink called chilcanos, very refreshing & delicious. Another brought some really good beers, various.

The guest of honor was from DC area, he had simply let me know he would be in the Chicago area & available for dinner. So lesson is, don't be shy! If you live or are traveling to the Chicago area & want to have dinner some points/miles/frequent travelers, let me know, happy to set it up.

We had a number of vegetarians in our group so we went through some items like cheese stuffed empanadas, stir fried rice w/veggies, potato dishes such as papa la huancaina. I'm a confirmed carnivore yet enjoyed each of these flavorful dishes. Of course the marinated charcoal grilled chicken was fantastic also.
