As anyone ever heard of United (or any other airline) using a "secret flyer program" like some retail outlets use? The last two United flights I have taken have had horrible service from the flight attendants and it seems there's no accountability for rude behavior from the flight attendants. Thanks in advance for any info!

I'm sure they d;) this somehow, but I doubt they do so by offering tickets to rand:)m people as the "Mystery shoppers" that stores use. If you experienced a problem you should contact customer service.

Yes, UA and other airlines do have "secret flyer" programs.

Obviously they are not publicized very much- but they do exist. I am not sure how well they work given your comment above :)

All that a secret flyer means is one less spot for an upgrade :p.

That assumes that a secret flyer only flies in premium classes, which is not the case.

It further assumes that one can tell that the tongue sticking out implies humor -

I can verify that the Old UA had this program (they are called ghost riders) when they took over the old Pan Am Asia routes back in the 80s. They used former flight attendants as their ghost riders. They sat in all classes of service. Old CO had a similar program during the same time. I haven't hear any rumors about this program in a long time.

i used to do check rides for UAFH back in my past life. I can assure you we sat in all classes and almost always rode with crew based pretty damn far from where we got sent from. I was working out of NYC but did check rides for mostly Trans Pac and south flying. we just sat in the cabin and send back evals in comail to the FA managers where they were based. Dont think they do it now. not enuff money!

Hey, I do the same to my partner! Can't count how many times he's asked me in the middle of the week, "Where are you this week?"

I have been suspected/"accused" ;) of being a ghost rider by UA flight attendants in the past when I have been spotted by the same FA on multiple trips/segments in a short time frame.

Welcome to Secret Flyer Program. The first rule of Secret Flyer Program is: you do not talk about Secret Flyer Program. The second rule of Secret Flyer Program is: you DO NOT talk about Secret Flyer Program!

Methinks that there is an advantage in being suspected to be a ghost rider.

They could have used ghost riders on a LAX-EWR flight on Sunday. Check out the thread on flyertalk. Apparently there was an equipment change that resulted in about 2/3 of the plane being denied boarding. The poster said that he was afraid that he was going to have to call 911.

The thread is titled something like "Scary situation LAX-EWR" or something similar.

P.S. I like you guys over here. So much more low-key than Flyersnark :D

WOW! I just read through that thread, and debacle would be putting it mildly. I wonder why companies advertise so heavily for new customers when they treat their existing customers so badly. Isn't customer acquisition a heck of a lot more expensive and challenging than customer retention?
