I was on a United flight this am and seated next to me was the passenger from hell. She was in one of the late boarding groups and complained when she boarded because overhead space was at a premium even though the GA had advised of this before boarding. Then she proceeded to take her seat in the middle. The entire flight she made snide comments to the gentleman seated in window seat. As the flight was descending she asked the FACT for information on sending complaint to United regarding gentleman seated at window. She then advised the FA that she was a "secret flyer." United doesn't get enough complaints from paying customers that they have to pay people to complain? Anyone else heard of this?

She sounds like an self-important a-hole. The kind of person who says they're important because they actually believe it and don't realize that others know they're lying. The first rule about being a "secret flyer" or anything similar is that you don't tell the employees who you are.

This is why the doors should open in-flight. Simply put a sign that says ‘Complaint Dept.’ over the doors in the exit row.
    Problem solved

Yeah Right. An airline will pay for a "Secret Flyer" like a Secret Shopper. They don't even pay attention to regular passengers, so why hire someone.
The only Secret Flyers that I can imagine would be FAA personnel and maybe upper management on the airline.

There have been reports in the past that Sir Richard has told Flight Crew to ignore him and concentrate on the paying customers. And Herb Kelleher often would tell the Flight Crew to ignore him.

    Secret Flyer???? Nope. PITA yep.

I think we're missing something important.

Props to the guy at the window for not letting this gal get the best of him!

Yeah she was not telling the truth. If she was she wouldn't have told anyone. Otherwise she wouldn't remain secret now would she. Maybe she's the secret flyer from hell?

Ghost Riders are usually company personnel and FAA Inspectors. The flight crew will not know they are being observed usually until the end of the flight so the woman was being a pompous and rude customer. I give props to everyone for keeping their cool and the woman should know its against federal regulations to divulge information that is not true to working flight crew members.

I actually think it would have been better for all if the other
pax had gone off on her.

And, no, the person was certainly not a "secret flyer."

I have a friend in dublin who is regularly hired by airport safety to try to smuggle in weapons thru security in order to test whether the security people detect it and how they deal with it

The secret flyers I know of are the Air Marshalls but I doubt you want to be on a flight where they identify themselves.

Additionally if she were a "ghost rider" as DIG/R_1K describes, wouldn't she know the information she asked for?
