I'm travelling for Ontario March break on a ski vacation, flying AC metal. I have 3 youth travelling with me, all carrying ski equipment. 2 are on my PNR and one is not, but on the same flight.

I know that as an SE, I get 3 free checked bags....do my travelling companions also get free checked bags or are they required to pay the fee?

Technically they are required to pay any baggage fees due, although not always enforced.

You can of course claim some of their bags as "yours" up to your limit of 3.

One does wonder what happens if one claims one's companion's bags as one's own, whilst en-route across a national border. Might make a Customs inspection rather more (ahem) 'interesting', potentially?

If you know your companion and sure not transporting a dangerous thing nothing would happen
