This appears to be a targeted offer:
I am not sure that link above would work (it seems to prefill with my MP#, so I have deleted the link; sorry). Here are the details:

    It seems variable:
Buy now and save 20% when you buy fewer than 25,000 award miles or save 30% when you buy 25,000 award miles or more. Use your miles for flights, hotel stays, car rentals, name-brand merchandise* and more. This offer ends January 25, 2012.

Also received the offer for 25%. Usually not a great value but if you are topping off for an award, a valid option and time to do so.

Haven't been paying to much attention to buying miles, but when I got this offer too, noticed that you can now purchase 100k miles per year; when did that change?

interesting promo. i received the 30% off of >20K offer. so essentially one can purchase miles for ~3cpm. am i missing any downsides to this promo? ( i am considering buying the max for the kids just to have a stash on hand for family travel.)

thanks for that link. i read his take on it. while i understand his thoughts, i am still a bit conflicted about whether to buy or not.

my kids don't fly enough during the year to earn status. i usually use miles to get their tickets when we do fly somewhere. looking at various potential destinations, i am not sure i will be able to find domestic (let alone int'l) flights for 3cpm or less.

going with that "logic", i just wonder if it is just better to work with the 30% off deal and not over think or even guess that UA will lower airfare. i just am a bit annoyed at the prices i am seeing to places we flew to in the past at double or triple of previous year's costs.

Oddly, I received both the 25% and 30% offers. Weird.
