After agreeing with the unions SAS plans to start 40-something new routes next year. Some of them are already known (SFO, BUD, PRG and Cagliari)

Another 35 is supposed to be announced tomorrow.

Probably mostly leisure destinations with 2-4 weekly frequencies

So- SAS went from a business airline to a bankrupt airline to a tour/charter operator all in the span of a week?

I guess the SFO route was a rumor.

This is more about using the spare capacity in the summer months, when the business traffic drops to a minimum when we all have our 3-4 weeks of summer holiday

Understood- I am really questioning the strategy of SAS in general at the moment.

Should we call this "going out with a bang"? With this move they either become profitable or die. Am I the only only one steering away from SK plated tickets?

Anyone have any ideas why they went with SFO vs LAX?

Technically isn't LAX a Star hub as well? Or is it only a focus city with UA (I'm not a *A flyer)? Also really surprised that SFO is a higher yielding market than LAX considering the amount of premium traffic LAX generates across the pond.

  16. Their next move is probably a merger with the likes of LH. Operating SAS as a separate LH brand will allow them to make more efficient use of their aircraft. Swiss is now a successful LH brand operating with more effciency and less overhead.
