According to the norwegian forum flyprat.no SAS are in agreement with with Airbus to lease an additional Airbus 340. It seems that it might be CC-CQG an ex Lan Chile aircraft.

The aircraft is gone be used as is, so the cabin will have 218 seats in M and 42 seats in C. So no Y cabin. It might seems weird not to convert it to SAS standard, but the seats in both economy and biz seems to be better that the normal SAS standard.

The aircraft will be delivered by the end of Q1 2013, and the increased capacity will be used to get more flexibility in the fleet and make it possible to open CPH-BKK during the winter season.

Interesting news and good to see that they are expanding their TATL fleet.

For certain they're paying very little for it, so an "as is" use probably makes sense, especially when it's in nice shape and better than SAS standard. As LAN's B787's arrive all the A340-300's go, except for one that will continue for the SCL-AKL route, IIRC.. BTW, the 'M' referred to is really 'Y". Those are definitely economy seats.

Yes, but in SAS terminology M = economy and Y = economy extra ;)

I did not know that. Does that mean SAS will sell the whole economy cabin as M?

Agreed, but considering that the A340 is now out of production, I think it seems a little strange for an airline to acquire a new one. Not questioning the acquisition, I just think it's a little strange.

Cheap, really cheap long haul capacity. They are actually taking form Airbus a LAN one being replaced with a B787.

They are leasing it from Airbus, at a rather low price ;)
