For those of us that are mileage running or visiting San Diego the weekend of June 2nd (or those who live here ), be aware that the Rock and Roll Marathon is Sunday morning on June 2. The course is significantly different from last year. The start is the same on 6th but will end near Petco Park in the Gaslamp. The marathon will largely be run in the neighborhoods of Hillcrest, South Park, Little Italy, West Mission Valley (e.g. Friar's Rd) and the Gaslamp. Morning access to Balboa Park will be non-existent until 9am at the earliest (and parking may be difficult due to the start on 6th Street). The Half-Marathon this year runs through sections of Normal Heights and City Heights over by I-805. Many downtown streets will be closed, so moving around in the downtown core or the Gaslamp will be difficult that Sunday morning. 163 will be shut down the entire morning (from 2am). Several freeway ramps will also be closed, including a couple that go to and from the airport from I-5. Expect delays to/from the airport. Maps and road closures are here: http://runrocknroll.competitor.com/san-diego/road-closures If you're going to/from the airport, most detours are based on getting to Laurel Street. And if you're running - good luck this year!
