An upscale new lounge that’s open to anyone at San Jose Mineta International Airport might make you actually look forward to going through security.

Opening Jan. 11, The Club at San Jose will offer everything from showers to complimentary wine and computer workstations – all for a $35 day-pass fee. In other words, no fancy mega-mile-traveler cred required.

Commissioned by San Jose International Airport, the lounge is the latest effort to raise the bar at the airport as it seeks to attract new carriers and flights. The 7,400-square-foot lounge launches the same day as nonstop service All Nippon Airways to Narita, Japan. (Stay tuned to The Business Journal website for complete coverage of the new route and its impact on area businesses.) It’s located across from Gate 15 on the third level of Terminal A. (American Airlines had an Admiral’s Club at Terminal A until 2010.)

I'm at The Club now... very nice lounge. Immaculately clean (it is brand new, after all), lots of seating (less than 10 people here at ~8am). Eight seats at two long desks with two outlets at each chair, lots of two-person tables, lots of individual armchairs. Outlets do seem plentiful.

Breakfast offerings include: bagels, fruit (honeydew, cantaloupe, kiwi), yogurt, granola bars, individually packaged cookies, mini muffins. Juices include orange, grapefruit, tomato, cranberry. Free water bottles. Some alcohol is complementary -- I didn't inquire about specifics.

    Shower(s - unsure) are available but I didn't get a look.
