San Francisco Palace
Four Seasons San Francisco
Any of the Fairmonts?
and any suggestions on when to go?
I was thinking summer for Alaska?
Or winter for seeing the family during Christmas?
When is the best time to see big sur?
The Palace is what I'd call Old School Luxury. It really is an old and fairly luxurious hotel. The St. Regis is more contemporary luxury. They're both fine, depending on your tastes. My grandmother would like the Palace. That's not a backhanded compliment; my grandmother has taste. The St. Regis is for someone with tastes a generation younger, Baby Boomer generation, I'd say. Neither is Modern Hip. Both locations are okay, though the St. Regis might have a slight nightlife edge, being closer to SOMA.
I don't know the Four Seasons, and haven't been to The Fairmont in years. It is a classic in a nice location, though...if you don't mind hills.
Do Alaska in the summer! ...with mosquito provisions. That's more of a "once in a lifetime" and timing matters deal. (I could talk all day about Alaska.)
Was thinking of Disney or Silversea
Or in the winter for northern lights, dog sledding, general winter stuff.
May-October. Usually great weather.
okay but is Alaska over rated and are cruises?
No, Alaska is pretty awesome. I just came back from an extended weekend trip to the Fairbanks area.
(it may not be the right place for you, though, if your focus is on luxury hotels etc).
Also has anyone been to California Academy of Sciences? and what did they think
Been there many times (I used to live in the Bay Area). It's nice and interesting. Be prepared for long lines to buy tickets. Consider going to the other side of the entrance, become a member and skip the wait. If you have multiple people, a couple or family membership might not be much more expensive than individual tickets.
If you go, say hi to Claude. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claude_(alligator)
