    All 17 Trent 1000 powered B787 are having their gearboxes replaced.

    As serious as this is it is clear that Rolls-Royce has learned a lot from their bad early A380 experience and the world is better for it. Similarly Boeing was very quick to act.

    Hopefully this will be the only such issue, but happily it is being handled in a very professional manner by all concerned. It is worthwhile to note taht the problem was found during test, not by in service failure.
