Does anyone have a list of routes where Qantas currently flies with a first class cabin? I know that they are planning to cut back. Their web site says that it is only available on destinations served by an A380 or a B747-400. But does this mean that all such destinations have first class?

There aren't many as they dropped a lot last year.

Off the top of my head:
    • SYD-BKK-LHR (744)
    • SYD-SIN-LHR
    • MEL-SIN-LHR
    • SYD-LAX
    • MEL-LAX
Now that's with First cabin and service. On some routes you may also get an F cabin with J service depending on the aircraft that's operating the route.

I'm sure there might be some that I've missed.

And I think SYD also has SYD-HKG
Note these routes will disappear as QF removes F from the 744.
Medium term fleet plan is for 9 744s with SkyBed IIs, PY and Y

QF will remove all F except the 380 F/suites?....

    Correct.

747s will be refitted to replace F with J.

The first 12 A380s will have F, but after that there's no more.

They announced this about a year ago.

Off the top of my head I think QF plans to retain 9 747s, none of which will have F (but will have J upgraded to the same lie-flat horizontal Mk II Skybeds that the A380 has), and plans to have 20 A380s, 8 of which will not have F.

Of course, even if I have that correct for now, things could change.

In my opinion, the new MK II Skybeds are superior in nearly every way I can think of to the older 747 First seat/beds.

One would hope they could get something as simple as this correct.

QF are usually slow to implement changes - especially improvements!

Never safe though. QF have been quite happy to cancel people in F and offer them alternate routing or downgrades. If you're just going to HKG, you'd be downgraded to J though (with suitable refund for the fare difference) if they do cancel the F cabins. The F cabins are going from MEL-HKG, and they're meant to be starting the re-fit of the 747's this year.

Well that sucks. Why more likely to go out of MEL vs SYD? Would QF rebook out of SYD in F if they downgrade?

And i guess that implies the following question: I haven't ticketed MEL - HKG just yet - should i switch to SYD - HKG?

They are removing F from flights through HKG, and will only have it going via SIN and BKG so you won't be rebooked in F on any route unfortunately, just downgraded to J.

They are starting re-configuration shortly, so things will start going away within 6 months I would imagine.
