Robots as bellhop?

    This would be great! Automation of the little stuff is great, and it avoids the awkward interaction of some of the more odd bellhops/runners to your room.

    Amazing! Soon, almost all manual tasks will be replaced by automation, computerization, and other mechanical surrogates! I recall staying in old hotels in Europe some years ago, where the elevator was operated by a person. With higher and higher rates of joblessness worldwide, does increasing automation make sense?

    How do you figure the tip to a robotic bellman? What happens if the robotic isn't satisfied with the tip given?
    Does it then refuse to give you your luggage, leading you to a shouting match with a machine? Are there weight and size limits for using a robot to deliver your bags?

    Or do you just tip the robot over on it's side so it can't run off with your now-probably-damaged suitcase.

    These are all weighty and increasingly time consuming questions which would have to be answered in full, well before dispatching a large fleet of robotic bellhops all over the ever growing hotel world. Unless you're in a low priced chain's property, in which case you would have to carry both the robot and your five suitcases up to the room yourself, with no elevator available there, so there remains all four flights of stairs to climb.

    Of course if the robotic bellmen are replaced over time, with real live, breathing, smiling HUMANS, who also know how to operate an elevator should there be one available, the technical problems then may not be as obvious.
