My family (spouse, two children under ten, a well-trained yellow lab and me) spent two nights at the Ritz Carlton in While Plains, New York last week.

Our house is in a low lying area, very close to Long Island Sound. Due to the approaching Hurricane Irene (August 2011), my family decided it would be best to take a bit of an evacu-cation. Though we were very fortunate and our house did not flood or get hit by falling trees, the storm surge from the Sound at high tide came to within three houses of ours and our house was marooned for about half a day. Though some of our neighbors didn’t fare as well with the water, no one was hurt and all impacted that we know at least have adequate flood and storm insurance coverage.

We were able to book a room at the fairly new Ritz Carlton Westchester, in White Plains, NY. We stayed in one of their two Ritz Carlton Suites for several nights.

My detailed visit report is posted here: http://bit.ly/qYlfbX

Great report. The furniture and decor do indeed seem subpar for this suite and a relatively newer hotel. Glad you and your family stayed safe!

Thanks for the report... I've seen this property a lot either on my way to/from the mall or going to BLT or The Melting Pot. It always strikes me as odd, like it was out of place.

Look it up... you'll see. :)

There's a Marriott, a Crowne Plaza and a Knights Inn within a mile and nothing anywhere near the caliber of the RC anywhere nearby. And it's miles from the golf courses and country clubs of Westchester County, the I-95 corridor, etc.

Quite frankly I have no idea what that hotel is doing there. :)

Seems like that someone wanted it to melt into the community there!;)

Could be... but it seems someone forgot to bring in the right furnishings. :)

Indeed- looks like a Crowne Plaza.

There's enough high end demand (both from locals and corporations) within a few miles; that, plus a bit of conference business, I suspect keeps this property doing fairly well. The different use types keep the property's occupancy more stable.

I wish we had this in Greenwich or Stamford. The Delamar is ok, but too many cougars for my comfort.

As for golf courses, anything nearby is either private, or municipal (and impossible to get a time on, and in terrible condition). That part of their marketing language is downright misleading. Centennial or Pound Ridge would be the nearest respectable daily fee courses, both 45 minutes away.

Any reason why you go to this Melting Pot versus the one in Darien?

(I hope you're getting miles-dining miles, regardless of the location)

I've stayed at this property before (friend's wedding), and I agree with the overall furnishing assessment. It wasn't the nicest RC by far, a bit surprising for a new property.
