RIM Poised to Miss Tablet Estimates as IPad Wins 19-1: Tech Research In Motion Ltd. (RIMM), depending on its new PlayBook to bolster sales as demand for its BlackBerry phones withers, may have shipped just one of the tablet computers last quarter for every 19 iPads from Apple Inc. (AAPL) The company, which reports earnings tomorrow, probably sold about 490,000 PlayBooks during the first full quarter of sales, according to a Bloomberg survey of analysts, compared with the 9.25 million iPads shipped last quarter. Analysts cut estimates for full-year PlayBook shipments, to an average of 2.2 million, according to the survey. “RIM overplayed the PlayBook in terms of its sales and prospects,” said Charlie Wolf, an analyst at Needham & Co. in New York. “What this really shows is that the company’s prospects will depend on the next generation of BlackBerrys.” MUCH MORE>................ http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-...-tablet-estimates-as-ipad-wins-19-1-tech.html
Who would've thought a "tablet" that's only slightly larger than your smartphone wouldn't be a huge hit
All bets are on or off! This feels more like a game, than a real market, it's show off time, the brand counts too!
I don't think size is the issue here. The fact that it isn't an iOS device, however, does matter. I lost all interest in the RIM tablet once it became clear they didn't even have a standalone email client (and PIM apps, I think) when they released the sucker.
Good point...they need to stop playing catch up for once. They were way too comfortable with their position in the market and look where that got them.
The RIM product and form factor works well, but we are now at least 6-9 months in and... no native email on 4G/LTE (or even 3G) no Android apps which were all promised pretty much on launch day when they get any of these the gap will close... RIM just has been way too slow
