Shouldn't it be listed as Star Alliance instead of *A (and therefore be the last in the order of the three alliances)?

    Reasons:
    1. Consistency. No abbreviation or acronym used for other alliances
    2. Newbies might get confused about what *A is. Even though there's a glossary, it's not so obvious to locate it and Star Alliance will be more user/newbie friendly

    2. that's an issue, though any newbie without the 50 IQ points

If they can't figure it out, yes.

I thought one of the main ideas of this new forum was to welcome and help newbies, not ridicule them for their lack of knowledge.
I would like to think we were all new once and there was someone to explain things which we did not know.

I have to agree with Chimpy on this one. we can do without the insults. None of us are born with an inate knowledge of mileage, alliances and FFP. If someone wants to know more about the topic, then this is the sort of place people should be able to come to, without being insulted and ridiculed.

Sure, most people should be able to figure it out; however, why should they have to? After all, we don't post a triangle for Delta.

I think it should be called Star Alliance as a gesture of clarity.

Hopefully, this site will turn into a useful resource for all people - a safe environment without any of the smugness, intimidation and condescension that a lot of other forums have.

    That's my two cents

Thanks for the suggestion JalPAK, this is a good idea no doubt. Keeping and welcoming and friendly community for both newbies and old timers is one of the base ideas of milepoint just like Chimpy mentions. Thanks!

With Tim seemingly on board I hope this happens. Even non-newbies are acronym challenged and we have far too many of them for easy use. In titles, at least we ought never to abbreviate.

I agree that spelling out "Star Alliance" in the context referred to in JALPak's OP would be friendlier.

It seems fine to use *A as an abbreviation in posts where the context makes it clear (or, at least, easy to guess), such as a reference to other *A airlines, but unhelpful to do so elsewhere and plain silly to use the symbol in a context where it will lead to star coming before one and sky in an alphabetical list.

Bear in mind also that not everyone is conditioned to read the * symbol as "star". My spouse (mathematician) does read it that way, but for me it's always been an asterisk and the first time I saw *A I needed to think for a moment. Last time I checked, my IQ was above 50. ;)

Let's try to keep this place welcoming.
I'm 100% behind keeping main titles spelt out in the full. No abbreviations.

I find it offensive that people equate my suggestion
that those who can't figure out what *A means should
not be catered to. Consider yourselves permanently
    unliked!
