Residual Value on Gift Cards?

    I assume you don't have to fully drain a Hyatt gift card when paying for a hotel stay, but is it advisable not to leave partial value because of hotels' primitive processing systems? In other words, put the residual value on a credit card?

    It's wasteful to leave orphan balances on gift cards. Drain them to zero as promptly as possible, then throw them away. Hotels will have no problem doing that.
