Removing of already-posted bonus miles from "Map of Dreams” offer

    Hi Everyone,

    I wanted to give you a quick heads up that, although some of you have seen miles post from our “Map of Dreams” offer, we accidentally began crediting these a bit earlier than planned and have subsequently found that many did not post correctly. To fix this, later tonight, we will be removing any bonus miles that were credited and will re-qualify all customers after the promotion completes on July 15th. We will post the correct number of bonus miles by July 28. This update process will only impact bonus miles that are part of the offer. It will not affect base miles, PQM and PQS.

    Can't help wondering, would they have noticed if there wasn't such a lively discussion on TOBB and (to a lesser extent) here?

    FWIW, I've pretty much cleaned out my account during the recent SQ award space snafu, so they better not touch those reservations if my balance goes negative. :eek:

    Can someone describe what this offer even was and who it was targeted to?

    I can understand the the mistake being fixed and some may agree or disagree with it being fixed

    But

    It just boggles my mind that other more pressing issues which COdbaUA has been well aware of for four months which "are a top priority" have yet to be fixed :mad:

    I was a little shocked when I saw 25K missing from my account. :eek: Not pleased at all. AA is looking better and better each day.

    It boggles my mind that they don't just remove them from those accounts that shouldn't have received them. Instead they piss off everyone who participated in this promo. That's both PR incompetence and IT incompetence.

    Logged into my account last night and noticed my balance was down 15K miles with no trace of them ever being there. Scratched my head for a while thinking perhaps I'd lost my mind and then came across the FT thread about it.

    Very poor PR move on this, and yet more evidence of IT incompetence at the new UA.

    This really is poor form. I actually more annoyed about it today than when I discovered it yesterday. I noticed 25K miles missing from my account before the email arrived. This error had been going on for almost 3 months, but they decide to "fix" the error just days before the promotion ends without at least notating the MileagePlus accounts with the deduction.

    Thumbs down. I know United can do better than this.

    That might explain the social media strategy (spending too much time in the bathroom to engage customers).

    Thanks, I have no idea how I missed out on that thread, I'm on this website at least a few times a day.

    Sounds like a nice promo, I wish I was targeted, I have easily had well over 5 RTs in this time frame ..... which is probably the reason I wasn't targeted.


    Well... I guess one good thing came from not being targeted for this, no expectations set and no disappointment... :)

    Maybe you were and don't even know it? If memory serves right, I never received the promo email and yet I was able to register and receive points (but other accounts I manage were rejected at registration).
