I made reservations for a few flights on Buddha Air and got some peculiar
e-mails back, with my own name in the From field (strange), requesting
Then I got the note quoted below at what I thought was an unseemly short
interval and with suspiciously high degree of urgency.

Never mind that I'm not going to be at a scanner for some days, but
is this sort of procedure normal, and is my leeriness justified, or is
it the result of a cultural misunderstanding?

I wish I could give you a definitive answer...I was in Nepal 12 years ago and flew some of the smaller airlines around the country. I remember getting unusual e-mails along these lines, which turned out to be perfectly legitimate, but that does not necessarily mean that the the e-mails you are receiving are OK.

But things are operated a bit differently in Nepal. I am not sure if this is still true, but in the crowded departure lounge at Kathmandu Domestic Terminal, there are no departure boards, just a man walking around yelling out the departures, trying to be heard over the din of the large crowds, as in: "Buddha Air, Buddha Air, Pokhara, Pokhara!"

It is not unusual for Asia-based companies.

The phone & fax numbers in the e-mail do match http://www.BuddhaAir.com/contact/
