I was browsing AA.com for a trip to CUN around the 4th of July and this message was displayed above all the flight choices:

"Based on your itinerary, you may be eligible for a refund of certain taxes. We’ll provide more information after you finish booking."

Anyone seen this before or know what the story is? Some kind of North America travel incentive that is poorly publicized? It's not going to make or break the trip but I know for sure I did not get any kind of a tax refund when I went to CUN last July.

    Thanks!

There is a related post at FT, also with no answer from Mar 8.

IIRC someone who goes to Mexico frequently can avoid the tourist tax by starting with a one-way ticket, then buying roundtrips Mex--home--Mex.
