Reflections and Praises for the March 3, 2012 Launch of the New United Airlines

?

Do you praise the drSL for his glorious vision of the New United?

  1. Of course! Praises be to the drSL!

  2. I am a self-loathing knuckle-dragger who lacks ability to recognize greatness.

On March 3rd, we shall celebrate the third anniversary of the dear respected Supreme Leader (d.r.S.L.) Jeff Smisek's glorious vision of the New United Airlines becoming reality.

Please share your 3/3 experiences in this thread.

Hmmm, gave it 2.5 years and asked DL for a status challenge?

I abandoned CO and UA after many years of highest tier or midtier and went back to US-AA. :)

I was 1k and am now dirt. The drSL is the product of unreasonable expectations.

If it weren't for hitting 1MM, I'd be silver. This over-entitled elite has voted with his wallet.

One of the biggest factors? Back in 2012, when I was last a 1K, my SWUs and other upgrades keep not clearing because of UA's ongoing upgrade list brokenness. I wasn't willing to keep paying a premium to pay the upgrade lottery (and push for status on UA in the first place) only to have my lottery ticket voided by their tech challenges.

On the plus side, if it weren't for the the recomputation of lifetime miles that came with the merger, I wouldn't have my 1MM yet.

Same here. I made it to 1MM at thr end of 2013 and stopped worrying about UA status. I would have earned Silver based on my actual travel credited to UA last year.

I abandoned the then Continental back in 06/07. I switched the bulk of travel to AA with some to DL. My only regret was that I didn't do it seven or eight years earlier. Now that United is making a major overhaul to the FF program, I am leaving AA in favor of UA. I figure the new management at AA will mess things up there (it has started), so I want to be out before it happens. I am interested in what UA is doing.

UA has an interesting model: if you want short-term benefits with reward miles, spend a lot of money. If you want lifetime elite status, fly a lot of miles. I figure that since I buy tickets on short notice, I'll do both. To get to SFO from LAX, I'll fly LAX/JFK/SFO and back. I can get work done on those B752s with no phone interruptions. I am looking at LAX/PTY/EWR and back for the east coast -- we'll see. It brings me back to the kind of shenanigans I got up to 20 years ago. United makes me feel young again.

I can also take LAX/ORD/IAH/EWR for about $900 and a bunch of BIS miles. Joy.

A few weeks after the Freddies may be an opportune time for the next batch of enhancements, right? ;)

That would be perfect timing. :)

AA changed how you get elite-for-life. I ended up with Gold after 18 months, but now the lifetime program resembles other carriers. It's the first sign that changes are coming.

I am proud that in the last 2 years my only flying on UA was award flights. Those are worth the price I paid for them .When I pay to fly I usually use B6 . More IFE and more comfortable seats and free snacks are good.:)

Trying to decide between spending 12K and keeping 1K or spending 0K
and keeping Plat. Problem is there are a lot of frontline employees from
both sides whom I'd miss if I cast my lot with the dAArk side.

You'll earn more on $900 tix for shorter flights, but not on transcons. For example, EWR-SFO is 2565 miles. As a 1K one earns (before 1-Mar-2015) 10260 RDM for a round-trip ticket. Under the new UA rules one has to spend $932 in base fare (w/o taxes) to earn that much on the r:eek:ute.

Pro tip: that "airplane mode" switch you use to disable cell network operations while in the air actually also works on the ground while you sit in your office or in your favorite coffee shop. :D

I am not quite sure which airline I have been flying on. It says UA, but based on my overwhelmingly satisfactory experience, I must be wrong.

I agree.. I was at DFW a few weeks back and the inbound for my SFO Flight was delayed from ORD (didn't even take off yet) Spoken with the very nice agent in the UA Club as she looked into the situation ( said take a seat and let me make a call).. I thought oh this wiill take some time. In about 10 minutes, she asks me if I would like to take the N/S to LAX as I am sure to misconnect at SFO. I said "you have a N/S to LAX"? She said no, AA does. I said, you will book me on that, she said of course dont you want to get home? Look on my face was priceless.. Best service I have had with UA in a long time :) Even reveived ORC as my ticket was marked INVOL.. Things are changing these days at UA and Im going to ride it out for awhile. Thanks and Safe Travels
