Never received an email message such as this before, as anyone else experienced one like this?

We have an important message regarding your itinerary for United flight UA875 to Bangkok, THAILAND on 10/4/2012. This flight was originally scheduled on an aircraft with an updated seating configuration. However, in an effort to prevent a flight delay or cancellation, it was necessary to switch to an aircraft without these updates. We apologize for any inconvenience

Update: I notice this flight was canceled today, Tuesday Oct 2 reason given Operations.

Interesting they're letting people know in advance of the downgrade in aircraft features (new to the old) perhaps and I'm grasping at straws here for a customer friendly notification.

With no expectations of compensation since they let you know in advance.

Well, the new config would have been nicer that's for sure, but at least it is still Business Class for me.

That's what you get with a 4-mile ticket! (ok, HKG, not BKK, but you get the idea) :)

I wouldn't bet on that. The company has been aggressive in offering compensation for passengers on the older configs.

Yes, I agree, all it takes is a little communication between the company and its passengers, it goes along way.....:)

Agreed. I was confirmed in C on a new config 777 BF cabin, but due to an operational change, was downgraded to an older config 777 BF (non-flat bed) cabin. As I had used cash & miles to upgrade, UA proactively offered me a $350 e-cert. In fact, the ecert was in my inbox by the time I landed. I was pretty impressed.

Awesome that they are notifying in advance about stuff like this. Now call UA up and have them put you on the SEA-ICN and then TG for ICN-BKK! :)

Mine was a GPU so I really don't expect anything else, at least they communicated with me, that's enough payback for me
