Avis Budget Group Inc. said Friday it will remove about 10,000 Ford Focus 2012 sedans from its fleet after Ford notified the car rental company of a safety recall on the vehicles due to a problem with their windshield wiper motors.
The problem does not affect all 2012 Ford Focus sedans, but only certain models manufactured at one Ford factory. Avis said it will pinpoint the affected cars by using an identification number provided by Ford.
The company will put the cars on "hard hold" in its reservations system to prevent them from being rented from its fleet in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.
Customers who are currently renting one of the recalled cars can exchange it for another vehicle by taking it back to an Avis or Budget location.
