I was flying on Delta last week (PTY-BOS), with no elite status, on a discount ticket, but for some reason I had Sky Priority. I asked a few agents why this had occurred (not that I was going to complain), and they had no idea. One suggested that maybe I got it because I was seated in an exit row but she wasn't sure. I figured I would throw the question out to you fine folks. Maybe just a fluke? Any ideas?

Were you seated in an exit row as a nonelite? If so, when and how did you get that seat?

I started checking at 24 hours out, and was able to confirm the seat through the online seat map about 6 hours out for my first leg (PTY-ATL). The other I was able to get another exit seat for my second leg (ATL-BOS) at the gate of my first flight.

I believe if you are in a exit row you would be in Zone 1.

I thought exit row meant zone 2?

As an FO, I'm nearly always Zone 2 and Exit Row.

sounds like a fluke. SP is GM/PM/DM/STEilte+. Exit is normally zone 2. You got lucky. Enjoy it!

I was in zone 1 on my outbound flights as well (again in an exit row, which I assume is the norm?), but only had sky priority on the way back. Davesjc is probably right that it was just a fluke, albeit an appreciated one. Now I wonder if the agent mistakenly put it in at check in, or if it was automated in the computer system. hmmm...

I thought they changed it to Zone 1 so FA can brief passengers on the exit row quicker

I remember it was for a while, but I have not heard them announce Zone 1 as being exit row for quite a while. IME, zone 1 is announced only as SP who aren't in F.

As another data point, I was Zone 1 this past weekend as a silver and exit row on an international flight. On all my domestic flights, silver and exit row was zone 2. Not sure if it's a coincidence or if it's an international/domestic thing.
