InsideFlyer magazine is publishing a review of the Miles & More program in the September 2011 issue and would like your input.

If you would like to participate, please post your response in the thread with the pros and cons of membership in Miles & More and grade the program from A to F (A being the highest grade). You can include a plus or minus with the rating.

We look at: Earning Ability, Award Choices, Partnerships, Elite-Level Program, Rules & Conditions, Service Support, Online Services and the general plus features and minus features of the program. Feel free to write about some or all of these topics.

You can also respond directly to me at lynda@insideflyer.com.
    Thank you!

Miles expire even if you fly if you're not an elite/CC holder
Elite levels are pretty high, but cater to business travelers (purchasing J or F tickets) so could be good or bad depending on your travel habits
Great top tier status level (except they're slowing eroding benefits away from the HON program as well)
    Good redemption availability

    Overall: C-
Mileage expiration is horrible and is a huge negative and having status levels the way they are, the program is designed to really only benefit business travels that fly business or first class

    Earning Ability: C
(Too many fares on partner airlines are not eligible for miles & more mileage credits, even though other Star alliance mileage pgms recognize same flights for miles. Mediocre 25% elite bonus on certain flights, while others like United provide a 50% bonus).

    Award Choice: C
(Flights to popular destinations in Asia sold out many months prior)

    Partnerships: C
(Inconsistent ability to earn miles towards status as well as elite bonus on *A partner operated flights)

    Elite-Level Program: C

(Mediocre benefits when traveling on *A Partner airlines in other regions like the US. For e.g., M&M Senators do not get access to Economy Plus seating on UA flights even though United Silver (2P) passengers do.)

    Rules & Conditions: B
Diminishing rewards (for e.g., expiry of evouchers, etc.)

    Service Support: B+

    Online Services: B+

    Lufthansa Senator helpdesk is good
    2 year membership qualification

For someone who travels extensively worldwide (within US, US-Asia, US-Europe), M&M does not provide sufficient benefits like United Mileage Plus. Getting access to United economy plus would be a big perk, as would the ability to earn miles toward status as well as a larger elite bonus on all *A operated flights and fares.
