    With as many USB cameras that exist, it's unlikely that they did any reasonable sort of investigation into this. It would be more beneficial to everyone if they posted the cameras that they confirmed were able to charge over USB. I'll start: Fuji JX700 can be charged via USB.

    And even if it does charge over USB, many cameras use a proprietary cable, or a USB cable with a connection that very few other peripherals use. So if you forget that cable, you're just as screwed as if you forgot the standalone charger. Some USB ports on some laptops may not have enough power to charge other devices.

    Lessons learned:
    1) Add "Charge all electronics" to your packing checklist
    2) *Always* bring the charger :)
