Earnings are based upon spend not miles flown.

Base earnings are 6 points per dollar of fare for Wanna Get Away fares, 10 points per dollar for Anytime fares, and 12 points per dollar for Business Select fares. These are also called Tier Qualifying Points (TQP).

You earn Companion Qualifying points for 'partner activities'. They can be redeeming just like TQP but do not count for Elite Status.

Redeeming your points are 60 points per dollar of fare for Wanna Get Away fares, 100 points per dollar for Anytime fares, and 120 points per dollar for Business Select fares. There are no blackout dates or held back seats. If it is available for purchase, it is available for redemption. Like most airline programs, either you have the points or you do not, no combining $$ and points. However, you can buy points to top off your balance (2,000 points for $50)

Points expire after 2 years of inactivity.

Elite recognition is A-List, A-List Preferred. These levels are based on flights in a calendar year.
Fly 25 one ways (paid) in a year or earn 35,000 TQP*, you are A-List. This entitles you to a 25% bonus on flight point earnings and priority standby.
50 total flights or 70,000 TQP bump you to A-List Preferred. This entitles you to a 100% bonus on flight point earnings and priority standby and free Wi-Fi on flights.

Companion Pass is a benefit for those that have 100 flights or accumulate 110,000 points. It allows you to take a companion with you at no charge (save taxes) for the rest of the year and the following year on every flight you fly. The companion's name can change 3 times during the year.

Is that two years from the last activity or from the date the points were earned?
If the former, would getting a couple of points from a rent car or other partner keep the account alive?

Points do not expire. It is last activity, so partner activity keeps them alive.

...and both A-List and A-List Preferred along with Biz Select customers get access to the Fly-By lanes where available.
