I'd really prefer that email notifications be opt-in rather than opt-out.

Can we subscribe to forums? If so, I haven't figured out how.

The requirements to make status aren't real clear. It doesnt say how many points are required to get Silver, Gold, Platinum. Is that on purpose?

Also... if a member has no status points, can it be defaulted not to display? Maybe its just me, but seeing a zero under my name makes me kinda sad.

  3. You can subscribe to a forum via RSS by clicking on the orange RSS icon just to the right of the title of the forum.

Hi missy (or should I say 'The Missy') - great to see you here :)

    - We're looking into the opt-in, opt-out thing.
    - You can watch a thread and then, in your profile area, there is a page on which is displayed your Watched Threads. If you have read all of your Watched Threads, nothing will display on that page unless you choose to display all.
    - We're choosing to keep the status requirements a bit of a mystery, although I'm sure they'll be figured out very quickly. The idea though is to encourage positive contributions, while at the same time discouraging attempts to game the system.

We'll see how that works out.

Thanks! But is there no "My MilePoint" or otherwise customizable homepage I can create so that the forums I normally check are less clicks away?

Currently we don't have any functionality like you are describing, but it is something we are keeping an eye on.

  11. It would be nice if we could watch a Forum.

    How about watching a thread?

  12. That is a good question. We are looking into that now.

I would love to see it :) I think especially for the Industry people. I don't necessarily want a feed every time something happens in a forum, but I would like to be able to get to it quickly when I log in so I can skim it.

Even if its a "5 favorites" kind of thing.

  15. I think we have talked about this concept. It may be something available in new versions of our forum software.

It sounds a little like what is on FaceBook. I like the idea of individual user pages.

Add me to the list of people who would like to see a My Milepoint type homepage. I probably would like to check at least 5-10 forums regularly to see if they have any posts. Since I'm at work, I want to be able to do this as quickly as possible.

Right now, it's just too difficult to go into different forums.

  17. Thanks for your suggestion

Is there a way to render linked images the same way that uploaded images are?

I like how the uploaded images in Randy's Dev Team thread shows a reasonably sized thumbnail, and you can click on it to see the full size.

In contrast, I just linked to an image from my facebook page in the Food Porn thread, and it put it in there full sized. While it does make quite a statement, a thread with lots of photos, or the same photo reposted several times as a quote... it can become pretty intrusive.

Missy, I uploaded a photo in one thread a little while ago; I first tried the "insert/edit image" icon, and that just hung for a while, so instead I used the "attach file" link. That one gave me a choice of full sized image or thumbnail.

Everything feels a bit slow, sort of like there is some molasses in the ether pipes.
I have several other fora in other Firefox tabs at the moment, and all of them are running normal speed.

I've gone through my preferences looking for every place to turn off the e-mail notifications, but I'm still getting "Reply to Watched Thread" notifications. I guess I have to go poke through preferences some more, see if there are any other opt-out boxes.

edit to ad: OK, I found the "Watched Threads" link, found that somehow I'd "watched" two threads, so I "unwatched" them. Maybe that will stop the e-mails.
